Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has launched the state’s first-ever Annual Media Performance Report, signaling a new era of open governance and strategic communication.
Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, Governor Ododo used the occasion to spotlight the media’s vital role in shaping public perception and deepening democracy.
Held in Lokoja, the event wasn’t just a government function—it was a statement of intent the signaled a powerful nod to transparency and public accountability,
“This report is more than numbers or headlines,” Ododo declared. “It reflects our belief that government should be heard—but also held accountable. What matters isn’t just how often we’re covered, but how truthfully our story is told.”
In an age where misinformation can spread faster than facts, the governor called on journalists to stand firm in fairness, accuracy, and objectivity.
“We don’t support exaggeration,” he warned. “We believe in truth.”
Ododo’s commendation extended to his media team, led by Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, who he credited for building a bridge between government and the people.
The report, according to the governor, reflects not only the administration’s performance but also its commitment to listening, learning, and improving.
For Hon. Ismaila Isah, the report represents a blueprint for better communication. “It’s not just a look back,” he said. “It’s a tool to help us connect better going forward—to build trust and to grow Kogi.”
Media leaders at the event, including NUJ Vice President (Zone D) and Prime FM GM, Momoh Jimoh Adeiza, hailed the initiative as a model other states should emulate.
“This is a win for journalism, and for governance,” Adeiza said. “Now, more than ever, journalists need support to tell the stories that matter.”
In a time when citizens demand more transparency from leaders, Governor Ododo may have just raised the bar, not only for Kogi but for Nigeria as a whole.
