Governor Usman Ododo is set to usher in a new era of inclusive economic growth in Kogi State by prioritizing community ownership, youth involvement, and investor partnerships in the mining and agricultural sectors.
This was disclosed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, during a live appearance on Rapid TV in Abuja, where he explained that the government has acquired 15 mining licenses and is laying the groundwork for a fully community-driven solid minerals sector.
‘Our strategy is different,’ Isah stated.
“Rather than allowing external operators to dominate our mining resources, we’re empowering local communities to form cooperatives and become co-owners of these projects.
This isn’t just about revenue—it’s about dignity, inclusion, and sustainability.”
He added that Kogi’s 32 mineral deposits are being repositioned to benefit its people, especially the youth, with 25,000 young persons set to receive training in various aspects of mining operations and mineral exploration.
Governor Ododo is currently in China to finalize discussions with investors and development partners on areas such as technology transfer, skills training, and investment in critical sectors.
According to Isah, these international engagements are designed to fast-track economic transformation in Kogi.
On agriculture, the Governor’s spokesman revealed that the administration is scaling up its “one farmer, one hectare” policy to 50,000 hectares.
The initiative, backed by modern equipment and increased access to tractors, aims to boost productivity and create wealth at the rural level.
The government is also working on strengthening its social protection framework.
“A comprehensive social register is being developed to target grants and support for MSMEs, persons with disabilities, widows of ex-servicemen, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups,” Isah said.
Health insurance coverage is being expanded, while the state’s rice production initiative is receiving new attention and investment.
Governor Ododo, Isah stressed, is driven by a personal understanding of rural hardship and is committed to inclusive governance.
“He’s not leaving anyone behind. Every Kogite, regardless of party affiliation, will benefit from this development journey,” he said.
