Senator representing Jigawa South-West Senatorial District, Mustapha Khabib has donated relief materials to families who lost loved ones in a recent communal clash in Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The senator visited Gidannagari village—one of the three communities worst affected by the violence that claimed more than 15 lives from both warring sides.
There, he presented relief packages to grieving families and appealed for peace, tolerance, and unity among residents.
Speaking during the distribution of the items, Senator Khabib urged both farmers and herders to respect boundaries and maintain peaceful coexistence for the sake of long-term stability.
“What happened is tragic and deeply unfortunate,” he said. “Farmers and Fulani herders have long lived as brothers, and we must continue to support one another. There can be no development without peace. I urge everyone to reject acts that threaten the peace we’ve enjoyed.”
He added that while the losses are irreparable, the relief items are meant to provide some comfort—not as compensation, but as a symbol of shared grief and responsibility.
“Nothing can replace the value of human life. These items are only a small gesture to support you in this difficult time,” the senator said.
Each bereaved family received five 25kg bags of rice, five bags of maize, five cartons of spaghetti, three 5-liter gallons of cooking oil, five sachets of Maggi cubes, and packets of salt. Families of the injured received slightly fewer items, while those who lost their homes were also provided with essential supplies.
In total, the senator donated 300 bags of rice (25kg each), 300 bags of maize, 300 cartons of spaghetti, 300 gallons of cooking oil (5 liters each), 300 cartons of Maggi seasoning and 300 packets of salt
Senator Khabib called on all residents to use this tragic moment as a lesson and an opportunity to rebuild trust among communities.
“We are all witnesses to the pain this conflict has brought—loss of lives, destruction of property, and fear. Let us not allow this to happen again. Let peace reign.”
