A former President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Adebayo Oyero, has formally informed Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin.
Chief Oyero broke the news to the governor on Monday afternoon during a visit to the Governor’s Office at Agodi, Ibadan, where he was accompanied by members of the Olakulehin family.
According to sources, the news of the revered monarch’s death had begun circulating in the early hours of Monday, casting a pall of grief over Ibadan and beyond.
Speaking at the Courtesy Room of the Governor’s Office, Oyero delivered the official notification of the monarch’s transition, which marks the end of Oba Olakulehin’s brief but respected reign as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Oba Olakulehin, who hailed from the Okugbaja Compound in Ita Baale Ori Okiti, Ibadan North East Local Government Area, received his staff of office from Governor Makinde on Friday, July 12, 2024.
His passage comes at a poignant time, coinciding with preparations for the celebration of his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation.
Further announcements regarding funeral rites and succession arrangements are expected from the Olubadan-in-Council and the state government.
