Victor Okorie, founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and National Chairman of the Igbo Agenda Dialogue, has criticised Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo over his decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Okorie described Soludo’s position as embarrassing and scandalous, accusing the governor of departing from the founding principles of the party that provided the platform for his emergence as governor.
He spoke during an interview with Arise News on Friday, October 23, 2026, while reacting to Soludo’s support for Tinubu and his opposition to the presidential ambition of Peter Obi.
According to Okorie, APGA was established with a commitment to producing a presidential candidate from the Southeast in every election cycle until the region attained the presidency.
He said the arrangement was part of the party’s founding vision, pointing to the emergence of its first presidential candidate, the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
The APGA founder said Soludo’s support for Tinubu, instead of backing Obi, amounted to a departure from the party’s original political vision.
Okorie also faulted the governor for opposing Obi’s presidential ambition, describing the former Anambra governor as his Igbo brother.
“So, for Governor Soludo, a product of APGA, to go against the spirit and articles of the party is deeply disappointing,” Okorie said.
“That policy was well-established, which was how the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu became its first beneficiary.
“For Soludo to not only support the APC president, but to actively pull down his own brother, is why I say it is embarrassing and scandalous.”
Soludo’s position on the 2027 presidential election has brought his political alignment with Tinubu into focus, particularly against the backdrop of Obi’s bid for the presidency.
However, Okorie’s argument centres on what he considers APGA’s founding commitment to the Southeast’s quest for the presidency, rather than merely a disagreement over individual political preferences.
The claims about APGA’s founding principles and Soludo’s political choices are attributable to Okorie.
