The lingering political crisis in Rivers State may be drawing to a close as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu held a crucial meeting on Thursday night with key actors in the conflict, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

Also in attendance at the Presidential Villa in Abuja were the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and other members of the Assembly.

Though full details of the meeting remain sketchy, the gathering is believed to be part of an intensified reconciliation effort spearheaded by the President.

The latest development comes just hours after Fubara held a separate peace meeting with Amaewhule and other lawmakers in Abuja—a significant step toward ending the prolonged political standoff in the oil-rich state.

Sources say the renewed engagements signal a potential resolution to the months-long rift between Wike and Fubara, which led to the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers and the appointment of a temporary administrator by the presidency.

While official statements from the Presidency and the key actors are still awaited, Thursday’s back-to-back meetings suggest that a breakthrough in the crisis may be on the horizon.
