Eleven people have been confirmed dead after a trailer rammed into two cars and five motorcycles at Tashan Magarya Junction in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the fatal crash, which occurred on the Gombe–Billiri road on Thursday.

According to the incident report, the heavy-duty DAF trailer was travelling from Gombe towards Yola when it reportedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control at the junction.

The runaway trailer crashed into two Volkswagen Golf cars and five motorcycles, leaving several people dead and others injured.

The FRSC said its personnel received a distress call at 5:32 p.m. and arrived at the scene two minutes later to begin rescue operations.

Survivors were evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Kumo, for treatment, while 11 injured persons reportedly received first aid. Their injuries included fractures, cuts and bruises.

The wreckage was subsequently handed over to the Kumo Motor Traffic Division for further investigation.

Authorities had yet to release the identities of the deceased or provide an official update on the condition of the injured as of the time of the report.
