Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area has been crowned the overall best performer among Kogi State’s 21 LGAs in primary healthcare (PHC) service delivery.
The announcement was made by Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo during the commissioning of 80 revitalized PHC facilities in Lokoja, part of the state’s ongoing healthcare revitalization programme under the IMPACT Project, supported by the World Bank and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA).
As recognition for excellence, the governor awarded ₦5 million to Ogori/Magongo LGA, ₦3 million to first-place winners in each senatorial district, ₦2 million for second place, and ₦250,000 to outstanding individual health officers.
“This initiative encourages healthy competition and inspires improved service delivery across our PHC system,” Ododo said, urging communities to safeguard the revitalized facilities to ensure their sustainability.
The event also included the handover of medical equipment and commodities to 239 PHCs across the state and a stakeholders’ engagement session. Ododo praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to Kogi’s healthcare sector and commended Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director of NPHCDA and a Kogi indigene, for his leadership in improving service delivery.
Dr. Aina highlighted the PHC Leadership Challenge, which rewards health workers for diligence, empathy, efficiency, and accurate reporting. Dr. Abdulaziz Adams Adeiza, Kogi Commissioner for Health, and Dr. Mu’azu Omeiza Musa, ED of KSPHCDA, stressed the programme’s role in reducing maternal and infant mortality and improving healthcare access at the grassroots.
Hon. Rosemary Ohiezu, Chairperson of Ogori/Magongo LGA, thanked the state government and health authorities, noting that the revitalised PHCs have brought quality healthcare closer to vulnerable communities.
