Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has urged President Bola Tinubu to swiftly and diplomatically persuade US President Donald Trump to delay any action against Nigeria for at least 100 days amid concerns over alleged persecution of Christians.
Speaking at the November Holy Ghost Service in Redemption City, Ogun State, Adeboye stressed that the situation calls for wisdom and urgent action rather than confrontation.
“If I were asked to advise, I would say: move fast, move diplomatically, move wisely. Convince the US president to delay his actions for 100 days, then instruct our security chiefs to eliminate these terrorists within 90 days—or resign,” he said.
Trump had ordered the Pentagon to prepare “possible action” in Nigeria, accusing the government of failing to protect Christians and labeling the country “disgraced.” This followed the US State Department naming Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious freedom violations.
The Nigerian government rejected the claims, emphasizing that violence affects all faiths and reaffirming its commitment to combating terrorism. Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar described the US move as a misrepresentation of complex conflicts driven by criminal and extremist groups.
Adeboye warned that no foreign power would intervene in a military conflict, urging accountability in security forces and exposure of terrorism sponsors. He called on leaders to prioritize human lives above politics.
China and the African Union have also appealed to the US to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and avoid escalating tensions. Meanwhile, President Tinubu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting all citizens and maintaining collaboration that respects national sovereignty.
Concluding with a prayer for peace and unity, Adeboye encouraged Nigerians to stay calm and hopeful. “If we act with wisdom and urgency, this storm will pass,” he said.
