The Nasarawa State ministry of health has alerted citizens of an outbreak of lassa fever, measles and other communicable diseases in the state.
The permanent secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Janet Angbazo made the announcement on Saturday while briefing journalists in Lafia, the state capital.
Dr. Angbazo said two cases of lassa fever have been reported with more than three others that are being traced through contact with the victims.
“Lassa fever is a deadly decease that can be transmitted from rodents excreta and urine. People must avoid every contact with rodents.
“Lassa fever is more deadlier and kill more people than coronavirus, therefore whenever you notice symptoms like severe headache, vomiting, high fever etc, such cases should quickly be reported to the nearest health care center”, Angbazo said.
She said the victims are currently undergoing treatment and every contact is being traced in line with medical regulations.
The permanent secretary noted that the state ministry of health is adequately prepared to handle any reported case.
She cautioned residents against self medication or traditional treatment which may worsen the situation.
