Okpebholo’s Cabinet Approves ₦799.8bn Revised Budget with Focus on Infrastructure

The Edo State Executive Council has approved a revised supplementary budget of ₦799.820 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, raising the original estimate of ₦675.220 billion by ₦125 billion, or about 18 percent.

The decision was taken at an emergency council meeting presided over by Governor Monday Okpebholo on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Speaking after the meeting, Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, said the new budget reflects the government’s determination to accelerate infrastructure delivery.

“The revised budget shifts the ratio to 70 percent capital expenditure and 30 percent recurrent. This is a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to infrastructural development across Edo State,” he said.

Okoebor explained that capital expenditure rose by ₦113 billion, while recurrent increased by ₦12 billion to accommodate wage adjustments and recent staff recruitments in the Hospital Management Board.

“We have already completed 254 kilometres of roads statewide, with many more projects underway. The budget expansion is about improving infrastructure and ensuring better living standards for Edo people,” he added.

Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, noted that the revised budget will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and passage.
