Shaibu warns Obaseki of further exposures over insults by surrogates

Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has threatened to reveal more details about Governor Godwin Obaseki’s alleged misconduct if the governor’s surrogates continue to insult him in the media.
Shaibu, who served as deputy governor since 2016, said he has tolerated Obaseki’s actions for over 15 months and warned that his silence should not be mistaken for weakness.

Shaibu issued the warning during an interview after Sunday Mass at the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria conference in Auchi, Edo State.
He criticized Obaseki for actions he said were contrary to the principles of servant leadership.
The deputy governor called on religious leaders, including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), to reconsider bestowing unearned divine titles on political leaders.

Specifically, Shaibu condemned the title “God’s Servant Governor” that has been attributed to Obaseki, arguing that it does not reflect the governor’s actions.
He accused Obaseki of various wrongdoings, including conflicts with the church, revoking Certificates of Occupancy from poor citizens, demolishing homes, and undermining political leaders.
Shaibu also cited Obaseki’s alleged disregard for the rule of law, neglect of public infrastructure, hoarding of federal palliatives, and the use of thugs against opposition parties.

Shaibu’s comments were made in the presence of over 60 Catholic bishops attending the conference, where he called on the church to hold political leaders accountable and avoid becoming complicit in the injustices he accused Obaseki of perpetuating.
