As his tenure in the Senate approaches its end, Senator Neda Imasuen is stepping up constituency projects in Edo South, with a new police station and market taking shape in Amagba, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
Imasuen, who is not returning to the Senate, laid the foundation stone for the police station and inspected the ongoing market project, assuring residents that both would be completed before the end of his tenure.
The projects add to the infrastructure interventions being pursued by the lawmaker as he moves toward the end of his tenure, giving greater significance to what he leaves behind in the district he represents.
At Amagba, Imasuen said the proposed police station was driven by the need to bring security closer to a community that has expanded rapidly.
“On the insecurity we speak about all the time, we want to bring police nearer to the people. When we do that, crime will be reduced in this Amagba community that has become so big,” he said.
The senator’s decision to continue with constituency projects despite not seeking a return to the Senate has also placed emphasis on the tangible record of his current tenure.
Imasuen said his relationship with constituents would not end when his tenure expires.
“I’m still with the people. Even when I leave office, I’ll still be with the people. The people come first and I will always carry them along,” he said.
The market, which is also under construction, is expected to provide additional trading spaces and support economic activities in the rapidly developing community.
For Imasuen, such projects represent another way constituents experience the impact of government, beyond direct financial assistance.
“Sometimes you feel it through other means, like providing these amenities for the people,” he said.
He acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as financial support for the projects.
Community leaders and residents welcomed the interventions, particularly the proposed police station, which they said would strengthen security and improve the environment for economic activity.
One community representative said the projects would form part of the senator’s record when he leaves office, noting that elected officials are ultimately judged by what they are able to deliver to the communities they represent.
For Imasuen, the political clock may be running down, but his constituency agenda is still active.
With no return bid on the horizon, the remaining months of his tenure are increasingly becoming a period of consolidation—completing projects, delivering infrastructure and leaving behind facilities that will remain with Edo South after he has left the Senate.
