Kogi, Energy Commission Forge Alliance for Clean Energy Access

In a bold move to fast-track energy access and support Nigeria’s clean energy transition, the Kogi State Government has announced a strategic partnership with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) to drive renewable and off-grid electricity solutions across the state.
The collaboration was formalized during a working visit by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to the ECN headquarters in Abuja, where he was warmly received by the Commission’s Director-General and CEO, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, a proud indigene of Kogi State.
The engagement focused on exploring joint efforts to scale clean energy initiatives that directly impact underserved communities, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for inclusive and sustainable development.
Governor Ododo praised Dr. Abdullahi for his national contributions and described him as a worthy ambassador of both Kogi and Nigeria. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding energy infrastructure, especially in rural and off-grid areas.
“We are ready to align with the national clean energy strategy. Energy is central to our development priorities, and we will work closely with ECN to ensure Kogi becomes a model for sustainable energy access,” the Governor said.
Ododo also commended President Tinubu for initiating projects that enhance energy inclusion, empower youth, and promote economic resilience across sectors.
In his remarks, Dr. Abdullahi outlined ECN’s mandate and strategic roadmap, including the National Energy Master Plan and the Renewed Hope Solarization Project—a federal initiative designed to deliver solar-powered streetlights and infrastructure to institutions in all 36 states.
“Our target is to achieve 30% off-grid electricity coverage nationwide. Kogi’s commitment to clean energy perfectly aligns with this vision,” he said.
Dr. Abdullahi emphasized that collaboration with state governments like Kogi is crucial for achieving national targets in energy security, climate action, and inclusive growth.
The visit marks a significant step in deepening federal-state cooperation on renewable energy, with both parties expressing optimism about the opportunities ahead.
As Kogi positions itself at the forefront of Nigeria’s energy transition, the partnership with ECN is expected to unlock sustainable solutions that will light up communities, boost economic productivity, and empower a new generation of energy innovators.
