    Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has pledged unwavering support for press freedom and media independence, as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) marks its 70th anniversary.
    Describing the media as the bedrock of democracy, Governor Ododo lauded the NUJ’s seven decades of fearless journalism, accountability, and nation-building.
    He emphasized that a free and independent press is essential for good governance, ensuring transparency and holding leaders accountable.
    “For seventy years, the NUJ has stood firm in promoting responsible journalism, shaping public discourse, and safeguarding press freedom. My administration is fully committed to fostering an environment where journalists can work without fear or intimidation,” he stated.
    Governor Ododo praised journalists for their resilience, especially in delivering credible information despite **challenges. He urged media practitioners to uphold journalistic ethics and maintain professionalism, Combat misinformation and promote factual reporting and Leverage digital innovation to enhance journalistic excellence.
    Reaffirming his support for media practitioners in Kogi State, Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of strengthening the press as a catalyst for positive change.
    “As we celebrate this milestone, I commend the NUJ for its unwavering commitment to truth and accountability. The media plays a crucial role in shaping society, and I am confident that the union will continue to set high standards in journalism,” he added.
    Governor Ododo also urged journalists to remain steadfast in their pursuit of integrity and professionalism, ensuring that the press remains a force for national development.
    Governor Ododo’s administration remains dedicated to promoting a media-friendly environment**, recognizing that a thriving democracy depends on a strong, independent, and ethical press.
    “A free press strengthens democracy, fosters good governance, and empowers the people. We will continue to support and defend press freedom in Kogi State and beyond.”
