SCI disburses empowerment package to 850 persons to fight poverty, access health care services in Jigawa

About 850 persons under 340 Community Based Organizations (CBOs) have benefited from an empowerment package on various trades and skills acquizition by the Save the Children international (SCI) to enable them fight poverty in Kiyawa local government area of Jigawa state.

Speaking while distributing the materials, the chief party of the Integrated and Sustained Childhood Pneumonia and Infectious Disease Reduction in Nigeria (INSPIRING) in Jigawa state, Dr Adamu Isah said the gesture is part of the SCI Integrated and Sustained Childhood Pneumonia and Infectious Disease Reduction in Nigeria (INSPIRING) project funded by GSK to support the parents in the rural areas to fight poverty and economically access health care services for their children and themselves.

The chief party explained that the CBOs contained 170 women groups and 170 for men “making the total of 340 groups across the three district heads in the local government area.

According to him the materials are free of charge in three different sectors of human businesses that include farming, animal rearing and trade based on the beneficiaries choices.

Dr Isah maintained that “Each group for men and women is made up of 25 members. Therefore there is total of 850 persons who benefited from the gesture.

He listed empowerment materials to include fertilizer, seeds, sprayer and hoes for farmers groups, two goats and one he’gaot for animals rearing group, while the trade group got granding mechines, groundnut oil making materials and bags of groundut, Barbing equipment and capentary materials”.

Isah added that the packages were made available based on the choices of each group on their skills expertise and experiences”.

“We also gave them intensive training on the modern way of doing business. We hope the initiative would yield positive results”.

The chief party disclosed that “The aim is to empower you to fight poverty and economically access health care services for your children and yourselves.
“You also need to continue with the meeting and activities on your children health care services especially on pneumonia prevention and treatments.

Speaking at the occasion the district head of Kiyawa, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu thanked the organisation and called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity.
