In a bold stride towards economic independence, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has launched a new era for the state’s economy with the unveiling of state-of-the-art mining equipment and the official announcement of 15 mining licenses his administration has acquired
At a high-energy ceremony held at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, Governor Ododo declared the move as a strategic leap into Nigeria’s solid minerals sector, positioning the state as a future powerhouse in mineral development and economic self-sufficiency.
“This is more than a ceremony—it is the beginning of a transformation,” the Governor stated. “With these licenses and modern equipment, Kogi is no longer a sleeping giant. We are awake, and we are ready to mine our future.”
Kogi’s abundant resources—ranging from gold, lithium, and coal to over 30 other commercially viable minerals—have remained largely untapped for years. But that is changing fast.
Governor Ododo stressed that the mining initiative will boost internally generated revenue, reduce dependency on federal allocations, and most importantly, create thousands of jobs for Kogi’s youth.
“We are taking control of our destiny. This mining revolution is not just about extracting minerals; it’s about extracting value for our people,” he declared.
Backing the Governor’s vision, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, highlighted the state’s preparedness to lead in policy, legal frameworks, and infrastructure needed for a thriving mining industry.
Special Adviser to the Governor Ismaila Isah in a statement on Saturday quoted him to have said,
“With these 15 licenses and robust equipment, Kogi is ready for immediate exploration,” he said.
Through the Kogi State Solid Mineral Processing Company Limited, the government has laid the groundwork for immediate action—ushering in an era of prosperity driven by strategic resource management.
Kogi is no longer waiting for the future—it is building it.
