A 50-year-old self-styled prophet in Edo State is facing police investigation over allegations that he abducted five girls from two communities over a seven-month period, with one of the victims, aged 15, later becoming pregnant.
The suspect, Nicholas Nusa, overseer of Divine Grace Church in Ibillo, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, was arrested by operatives of the Edo State Police Command following information received by the command.
Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the alleged abductions occurred between September 2025 and April 2026, involving children from Ibillo and Imoga communities.
Rather than being linked to a single incident, the allegations span several months, with the police saying the girls were allegedly taken at different times and kept at the suspect’s residence.
The case came to wider attention after police investigations allegedly linked Nusa to the pregnancy of one of the girls, who was 15 years old.
The girl has since undergone a Caesarean section and is receiving medical care at a hospital under the care of the Brave Heart Organisation.
Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the suspect allegedly confessed during investigation, although the allegations remain subject to further investigation and possible prosecution.
She said efforts were ongoing to reunite the children with their families.
The police have not disclosed the circumstances under which each of the five girls was allegedly taken, how they came into the suspect’s custody or the precise circumstances surrounding the 15-year-old’s pregnancy.
Those details are expected to form part of the ongoing investigation as authorities seek to establish the full circumstances of the alleged incidents.
Nusa, who operates Divine Grace Church along Imoga Road, Ibillo, remains an accused person and has not been convicted of any offence.
