A 35-year-old woman, Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, has been found dead in Romi, Kaduna State, after an alleged altercation with her boyfriend over a phone call involving another woman.
The police have arrested the boyfriend, identified as Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, in connection with the incident.
Jeremiah’s body was discovered around 7am on Saturday, September 5, along Mai Angwa Street in Romi.
According to the Kaduna State Police Command, the discovery was reported by the Officer-in-Charge of the Romi Outstation, after which detectives visited the scene.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, said the woman was found with cotton wool stuffed in her nose.
Hassan said she was taken to St Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, where a doctor confirmed her death, while her remains were subsequently deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.
Police investigators reportedly traced Jatau after establishing that he was the last person to contact Jeremiah and had invited her to Ebano Joint in Romi.
He was later arrested at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna.
The police said Jatau allegedly admitted during interrogation that he had a fight with Jeremiah in his room over a phone call involving another woman.
According to Hassan, the suspect also allegedly told investigators that he moved Jeremiah’s body to an open field near his residence in an attempt to conceal what had happened.
Jatau remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The police said he would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, condemned violence and urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully.
He also assured the public that the command would pursue the case and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The circumstances surrounding Jeremiah’s death remain under investigation, while the outcome of the autopsy is expected to provide further details on the cause of death.
