Primate Elijah Ayodele has warned President Bola Tinubu that the growing endorsements for his 2027 re-election bid will count for little if his administration fails to win the confidence of Nigerians.
The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church made the remark while dismissing recent endorsements of Tinubu by some bishops, accusing them of backing the president for personal gains rather than divine direction.
Ayodele alleged that some of the clerics were seeking benefits from the presidency and urged Tinubu not to mistake their public support for genuine political strength.
“Endorsements mean nothing; it is only his activities that can either secure or make him lose a second term in office,” he said.
He also accused politicians endorsing the president of being motivated by self-interest, warning that some could abandon Tinubu if their expectations were not met.
According to Ayodele, the president’s performance in office, particularly his ability to address the concerns of Nigerians, will ultimately determine his prospects in 2027.
He advised Tinubu to focus less on political endorsements and more on governance, urging him to “buckle up” and put his administration in order.
Ayodele further criticised the bishops for allegedly attaching God’s name to their political endorsement, insisting that such support should not be presented as a divine mandate.
