Zuru Ritual Allegation: Police Probe Plot to Control Woman With Desecrated Qur’an

A disturbing alleged attempt to use religious and fetish practices to control a woman has triggered a police investigation in Zuru, Kebbi State, following the arrest of a 29-year-old man.

The Kebbi State Police Command said Abubakar Musa was arrested after investigators uncovered an alleged plot in which a copy of the Holy Qur’an was buried inside the room of a woman, Zarau Hassan, alongside materials allegedly intended for a ritual.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 9 in the Zango area of Zuru, with police investigations pointing to an alleged conspiracy involving Musa, Hassan’s husband, Rabi’u Tela, and another suspect, Hamza Zango.

According to the Command, the men allegedly dug a pit inside Hassan’s room and buried the Qur’an together with semen, white and red kolanuts, underwear, dead animals and other items described by the police as fetish materials.

Police said the alleged objective was not simply ritual activity but an attempt to make Hassan “more submissive” to her husband.

The allegation has consequently shifted the focus of the investigation beyond the desecration of a religious text to questions surrounding alleged coercion, manipulation and the use of occult practices within a domestic setting.

The police said the circumstances surrounding the incident were capable of provoking religious tension and disturbing public peace in the predominantly Muslim community.09

While Musa, a resident of Rafin Mose Village in Zuru Local Government Area, is now in custody, Tela and Zango remain at large as police intensify efforts to apprehend them.

The Command said Musa would be prosecuted after the completion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, condemned the alleged act and warned that the Command would deal within the law with conduct capable of threatening religious harmony, public order and peaceful coexistence.

The police urged residents to report suspicious activities through 09039911876 or 07081074395, assuring informants of confidentiality.

    The case remains under investigation.
