Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 election, says his recent meetings in Europe have opened further opportunities for international support for Nigeria, particularly in education.

Obi said he was encouraged by what he described as the sincere readiness of Nigeria’s international partners to support the country during his engagements in Germany and the United Kingdom.

The NDC candidate disclosed this in a statement after returning from the European trip, where he participated in meetings focused on some of Nigeria’s major development challenges.

He said the discussions covered democracy and electoral integrity, poverty, education, corruption and healthcare, with emphasis on practical measures that could improve the lives of Nigerians.

According to Obi, education emerged as a particularly important area of potential international cooperation.

He said Nigeria must treat education as a strategic investment, stressing that no country can achieve sustainable development without equipping its citizens with the knowledge and skills needed to drive productivity.

The former Anambra State governor said the country must also rethink its approach to economic development.

He called for a deliberate transition from consumption to production and from dependence to productivity, alongside better management of public resources.

Obi also advocated a shift from what he described as wasteful practices to responsible resource management and from division to a common national purpose.

He said the ultimate goal should be to build a Nigeria where children have access to quality education, healthcare is within reach and democratic institutions genuinely reflect the will of the people.

Obi said responsible management of public resources must also become a central part of efforts to give Nigerians a fair opportunity to live dignified and productive lives.

The NDC candidate had returned to Abuja on September 8 after visiting Benue and Plateau states before travelling to Europe.

He said the engagements reinforced the need for Nigeria to pursue practical solutions to its development challenges.

Obi concluded with the NDC slogan, “A New Nigeria Is POssible.”
