The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested six suspects over alleged cable vandalism and the theft of six generators from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Jega.
The command said two suspects, Aliyu Muhammed, 24, and Yusuf Dudduke, were arrested on August 28 over alleged vandalism and theft of aluminium cables from an electricity pole at Dudduke Village, Jega Local Government Area.
According to the police, Muhammed was arrested while allegedly carrying bundles of aluminium cables concealed in a sack. His interrogation reportedly led to the arrest of Dudduke.
In a separate operation following a report of breaking and entry at the INEC office in Jega, detectives arrested four suspects and recovered all six stolen generators.
The police said one of the generators had already been dismantled into scrap parts for sale.
The six suspects are in custody and will be charged to court after investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, warned that vandalism of critical infrastructure and theft of government property would attract severe penalties.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the command.
