***Legislative Priorities Set to Drive Economic Growth and Governance Efficiency

Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele has announced that the Senate will prioritize the Tax Reform Bills 2024 immediately following the Eid and Easter holidays, signaling a significant shift toward improving Nigeria’s economic structure.

According to a statement from his media office in Abuja on Thursday, the proposed bills aim to overhaul Nigeria’s tax system by providing tax reliefs for low-income earners and small businesses, while also offering exemptions on essential goods such as food, education, transportation, and healthcare.

Bamidele, who spoke at an empowerment program in Ado Ekiti benefiting over 5,000 constituents, also emphasized the Senate’s commitment to amending the 1999 Constitution to improve governance efficiency and ensure a more inclusive political system. He noted that these legislative moves are critical to boosting Nigeria’s revenue generation and stabilizing the country’s fiscal and monetary systems.

The empowerment event, which was attended by Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, lawmakers, and traditional rulers, highlighted Bamidele’s ongoing efforts to directly impact his constituents through initiatives like business grants, school supplies, tractors, and transport vehicles. Governor Oyebanji praised Bamidele for his dedication to Ekiti State’s development through federal representation.

With the Tax Reform Bills and constitutional amendments set to be central to the Senate’s agenda, these efforts are poised to drive long-term change in Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.
