Hundreds of residents have been driven from their ancestral homes in Adamawa State following coordinated insurgent attacks that left soldiers and civilians dead and forced communities in Hong and Gombi LGAs into fresh displacement.
The attacks, which occurred between September 30 and October 1, also targeted the 226 Battalion in Garkida and the 232 Battalion in Garaha-Mojili, heightening concerns over the security of communities along the Kopre-Sambisa corridor.
The Northern Senators Forum, in a statement by its chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, said women and children were among those reportedly abducted, while places of worship and properties were destroyed.
The senators called on the Federal Government and Defence Headquarters to urgently reinforce security in the corridor and adopt a coordinated strategy to dismantle insurgent enclaves.
They also urged NEMA, NEDC and other humanitarian agencies to urgently provide relief materials, medical assistance and trauma support to the displaced victims.
The forum described the attacks as an assault on Adamawa, the North and Nigeria, while urging residents to support security agencies with actionable intelligence.
