The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, has reiterated the 8th Assembly’s dedication to enacting progressive and people-centered laws to drive sustainable development across the state.

Speaking during a New Year courtesy visit to the immediate past Governor of the State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, at his residence in Okene, Rt. Hon. Aliyu praised the former governor’s contributions to the state’s development and governance reforms.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed, the Speaker commended Bello for laying a solid foundation, which the current administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is leveraging to foster growth and stability.

Describing recent challenges faced by the former governor as a “divine test,” Rt. Hon. Aliyu expressed confidence that Bello would emerge stronger.
He acknowledged Bello’s bold civil service reforms, particularly efforts to sanitize the payroll system, as a milestone that deserves statewide recognition.

The Speaker assured that the Assembly remains united and committed to partnering with the Executive to ensure the state continues on its developmental trajectory.

In his response, Alhaji Bello appreciated the Speaker and Assembly members for their show of solidarity and support for Governor Ododo’s administration. He urged the legislators to maintain their collaborative spirit and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies to unlock greater opportunities for the state.

Bello emphasized that unity among stakeholders is key to sustaining the momentum of progress in Kogi, stressing the need for continuous support for government programs at both state and federal levels.

The visit underscored the Assembly’s resolve to champion governance that prioritizes the welfare of the people while building on the legacies of past administrations to secure a prosperous future for Kogi State.
