The School of the Gifted, Gwagwalada, FCT, has claimed top honors at the 10th National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy, proving once again that knowledge and civic awareness are powerful tools for Nigeria’s youth.
Organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), the competition drew students from all 36 states and the FCT, with six schools making it to the grand finale, representing each geopolitical zone.
The finalists were: North-Central: School of the Gifted, Gwagwalada, FCT, South-West: Model Secondary School, Akure, Ondo
South-South: Annunciation Catholic College, Irrua, Edo, South-East: Academic Planet, Aba, Abia, North-East: Pen Resource Academy, Gombe and North-West: Bilikisu International School, Kaduna
After a tense and thrilling contest, FCT scored 70 points to take first place. Model Secondary School, Akure came second with 60 points after a tie-breaker, while Annunciation Catholic College, Irrua rounded out the podium with 60 points.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, Director-General of NILDS, said the competition is more than a quiz—it’s a celebration of democracy, knowledge, and civic responsibility.
“This competition represents a deliberate investment in Nigeria’s future. It teaches students how laws are made, the importance of representation, and why the rule of law matters. It’s about shaping informed, responsible citizens who will lead tomorrow,” Sulaiman said.
He added that bridging the gap between the legislature and the people is central to NILDS’ mission, and initiatives like this help counter apathy, misinformation, and intolerance among young Nigerians.
The day ended with trophies and cash prizes awarded to the winners, highlighting both academic excellence and leadership potential.
