2027: ADC Charts Own Path, Eyes Consensus but Ready for Showdown

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has signaled it won’t be dragged into the usual zoning battles or early-race noise as the 2027 presidential race gathers steam. Instead, the party says it will first push for a consensus candidate but is fully prepared to stage a hotly contested primary if talks break down.

ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the declaration on Arise TV Thursday, stressing that the party’s immediate priority is not who runs, but building a structure strong enough to compete nationwide.

“Atiku says he will run, Obi says he will run, Amaechi says he will run — that does not stop anyone else,” Abdullahi said. “What we are committed to is a level playing ground. We will pursue consensus, and if that fails, we will hold competitive primaries.”

The statement positions ADC as a potential wild card in 2027, offering a platform for heavyweight contenders while the ruling APC and main opposition PDP have already locked their tickets to the South. With the big parties narrowing their field, ADC’s strategy could become a rallying point for aspirants unwilling to be boxed in by zoning.
