The Federal Government has granted a three-month grace period for all foreigners residing in Nigeria with expired visas to leave the country without facing penalties.

In a statement issued on Friday, May 2, 2025, by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi warned that from September 2025, overstayers will be fined $15 per day and may face entry bans of up to five years or permanent blacklisting.

“A 3-month grace period allows foreigners with expired visas to exit Nigeria without penalty, ending August 1st, 2025,” the NIS said.

The immigration agency also announced the introduction of a mandatory online landing card for inbound foreigners and an exit card for outbound travelers, both accessible at lecard.immigration.gov.ng.
