In a show of resilience and defiance, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, made a grand entrance into her constituency on Tuesday, arriving by helicopter despite a government-imposed ban on rallies and public gatherings.
Her arrival for the Sallah celebration was met with jubilation from supporters, who defied security concerns to welcome her enthusiastically.
The senator’s bold move has reaffirmed her reputation as a fearless leader unwilling to succumb to political pressures. Cheers and chants echoed through the streets as residents lauded her determination to stand with her people despite mounting opposition from state authorities.
“We are pleased to confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central Senatorial District has proceeded as planned. Despite efforts to prevent her from reaching her people, she has kept her promise and is here to celebrate with them,” her media team announced.
Her visit follows a contentious directive from the Kogi State Government banning public gatherings due to alleged security concerns. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan remained resolute, maintaining that she had an obligation to her constituents.
“As the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains committed to engaging with her community and fostering unity. No amount of intimidation can stop her from standing with her people,” her team stated.
Adding to the tension, the senator has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of orchestrating a plot to assassinate her. Addressing her supporters, she disclosed that she had formally reported the alleged scheme to the Nigeria Police Force.
“On the 13th of March at 10:00 pm, Akpabio called Governor Ododo, asking him to begin my recall. But Ododo refused, saying it was impossible because the people support me,” she stated.
She further alleged that Akpabio promised to finance the recall process and later engaged Yahaya Bello in discussions about eliminating her. According to her, Akpabio advised Bello to ensure the act was carried out in Kogi rather than Abuja to create the impression that local residents were responsible.
“I didn’t make this public before, but I have written to the Inspector General of Police. Akpabio told Bello to ensure that my killing happens here, so it appears as though the people carried it out,” she claimed.
The allegations have deepened political tensions in Kogi Central, raising concerns about her safety and the region’s stability. Nationwide, calls for an independent investigation have intensified, with many urging authorities to take immediate action.
Analysts view her helicopter arrival as both a strategic and symbolic gesture, reinforcing her political dominance and defiance against state-imposed restrictions. Her actions, they argue, send a clear message that she remains undeterred in her commitment to her people.
Meanwhile, Kogi State authorities continue to justify the ban on public gatherings, citing recent violent incidents in various areas. Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo reiterated that the government would not tolerate activities threatening the state’s peace.
Despite this, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s presence in Kogi Central for the Sallah celebrations is expected to bolster her political standing and deepen her connection with supporters. As she continues her engagements, all eyes remain on how state authorities will respond to her defiance of the ban.
One thing remains certain—Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has once again demonstrated her resilience in the face of political adversity, solidifying her status as a leader unwavering in her dedication to her people.
