As the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) heads into a crucial election cycle, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is shifting its strategy from mere electoral dominance to deep-rooted grassroots engagement. The Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has reaffirmed that the party is not only poised for victory but is also redefining its political approach to ensure long-term sustainability in governance.
Speaking at a strategic stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Mahmoud emphasized that beyond winning elections, APC must solidify its presence at the community level.
Special adviser on media to the minister, Austin Elemue quoted her to have said, “We are not just contesting to win; we are contesting to lead with purpose. This is a turning point for APC in the FCT, where internal unity and strategic grassroots mobilization will define our success,” she declared.
One of the key components of APC’s evolving strategy is its intensified focus on youth and women participation.
Mahmoud hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s establishment of the Youth and Women Secretariat, describing it as a transformative move to empower previously underrepresented groups in the political process.

“This is more than just a campaign strategy; it is about building a sustainable political structure that genuinely represents the aspirations of the people,” Mahmoud noted.

Her comments were echoed by Hon. Abdulmalik Usman, APC FCT Chairman, who reinforced that grassroots mobilization would be central to the party’s upcoming campaigns.
“The strength of our party is not just in numbers but in the ability to translate political support into real change for the people,” he said.

While the 2025 area council elections are the immediate focus, APC’s ultimate test lies in the 2027 general elections.
The party’s new emphasis on community engagement and internal cohesion is a shift from short-term electoral victories to long-term political dominance.

As the meeting concluded, party members left with a renewed sense of purpose, one that prioritizes grassroots impact over rhetoric.
If APC’s new strategy delivers tangible results, it could redefine political engagement in the FCT for years to come.
