A Professor of Mathematics, Prof. Musa Adeku Ibrahim of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), has advised Nigerians against all odds, to embrace a life devoid of lamentations but should rather accommodate contradictions.
Prof. Ibrahim gave the advice while presenting the 24th Inaugural Lecture of FUL with the Topic:
Unravelling The Tapestry of Non-classical Set Theory:
“Navigating Novel Paths In
Understanding Life’s
complexities” in Lokoja.
He said that understanding life’s complexities required a willingness to let go of rigid thinking, embrace nuances and adopt a framework that accommodates contradictions and allows truths to evolve.
“Let us embrace a life where lamentations have no place”, he said, in appreciation of Mathematical Non-classical Set theory as it applies to everyday life of individuals in any society.
“We delve into the essence of
non-classical set theory, exploring its fundamental principles and the rich
tapestry of alternative approaches it offers for understanding life’s complexities.
“This aligns closely with our lived experiences, where identities are
shaped by a multitude of factors such as culture, upbringing, and personal
beliefs, reflecting their dynamic and multifaceted nature.
The erudite Professor of Mathematics said that the essence and application of Mathematical theories to life complexities informed the topic of the Lecture adding that with Mathematics, all life challenges would be resolved.
“The exploration of non-classical set theory in this inaugural lecture highlights its significance in expanding our understanding of mathematical
structures and their applications in real-world complexities.
“Unlike classical set theory, which relies on rigid, binary logic, non-classical set theory
introduces flexibility, accommodating vagueness, uncertainty, and contradictions”, he explained.
Prof. Ibrahim urged persons with phobia for Mathematics to rather embrace the discipline describing it as the science of structure and the relationships with abstract reasoning and often regarded as a true “Science of the Mind.”
In his welcome address, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, Vice Chancellor of FUL, said the Inaugural Lecture series of the University provided opportunity for distinguished Professors to share findings of their research and academic pursuit with other universities and the general public.
He said that the discuss was of immense relevance to the University community and the world at large.
“As a center of learning and innovation, our universities must embrace ideas that challenge conventional knowledge and open new frontiers of studies.
“This lecture provides such an opportunity and I encourage everyone here to engage physically with it for future research, teaching and application”, he said, as he discharged and acquited the Inaugural Lecturer. (Ends)
