The Kogi State Government has secured $500 million in World Bank funding under the HOPE-GOV initiative to boost access to quality basic education and primary healthcare services.

Speaking at a Citizens’ Sensitization Programme in Lokoja, Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Hon. Asiwaju Idris, described the funding as a major step toward strengthening the state’s education and healthcare sectors.

“Education and healthcare are the backbone of any thriving society. This investment will accelerate human capital development and drive inclusive growth in Kogi State,” he said.

State Accountant General and World Bank Fiscal Focal Person, Dr. Habibat Tijani, emphasized that the HOPE-GOV initiative aims to enhance fiscal transparency, improve budget credibility, and ensure accountability in the use of government funds. She added that the program will help recruit and train more teachers and healthcare professionals, ensuring better service delivery.

Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, praised the initiative and reaffirmed Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to improving the education sector. He noted that the government has already allocated over ₦1.2 billion to cover external examination fees for students in primary and secondary schools.

Similarly, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams, stated that the initiative will transform healthcare services and expand access to essential medical care across the state.

With this funding, Kogi State is set to make significant strides in education and healthcare, ensuring a better future for its citizens.
