Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, over his victory in the Edo State Governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Special adviser on media Ismaila Isah quoted the Governor to have reacted to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration that Senator Okpebholo is the winner of the election on Sunday, by commending him and the APC leadership for the resilience and determination that led to the party’s return to power in Edo State.

Governor Ododo, who was in Akoko-Edo to support the APC’s campaign, commended the people of Edo for their peaceful and orderly conduct during the election.
He highlighted the impressive turnout in Akoko-Edo, where the APC secured 34,847 votes, the highest number from any local government area in the state.
The Governor lauded the voters for backing their words with action by electing Senator Okpebholo.

Additionally, Governor Ododo applauded INEC and law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and efforts in maintaining law and order throughout the election process.

Reaffirming the APC’s commitment, Governor Ododo assured the people of Edo that their welfare would be prioritized under the leadership of Senator Okpebholo.
He emphasized that the new administration would ensure inclusive development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s federal government.

The Governor expressed his commitment to deepening the socio-cultural and economic ties between Kogi and Edo States and prayed for God’s guidance for Senator Okpebholo as he prepares to lead Edo State into a new era of development.

Senator Monday Okpebholo was declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election after receiving 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mr. Asue Ighodalo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes in a keenly contested race.
