Illegal Foreign Trips: Jigawa Assembly Suspends 3 Local Council Chairmen

Jigawa state House of Assembly has suspended three local government council chairmen over alleged illegal foreign trips.

Reports had it that the concerned council chairmen left this country without seeking permission from the state executive or legislative arm in accordance with the JIgawa state local government laws.

The suspended chairmen included Hon Mubarak Ahmed of Birniwa local government, Hon Rufai Ahmed, Gumel local government and Hon Umar Baffa of Birniwa local government who were said to have traveled to Ruwanda.

The House took the decision, after the chairman House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Hon Aminu Zakari Tsubut forwarded a motion for the suspension of the affected council chairmen.

He narrated that, prior to their travelling, the house had give an order for the local government council chairmen in the state to not make any trip due to the preparation for 2024 state appropriation bill and it’s presentation to the assembly by the state governor Malam Umar Namadi.

Hon Tsubut described the action of the chairmen as insabordination, nonchalant attitude to their primary responsibility which ought to be investigated and punish according to the law.

The member representing Malam Madori constituency Hon Usman Abdullahi Tura and Member representing Guri, Hon Hamza Guri seconded the motion moved by Hon Tsubut.

The House unanimously approved the suspension of the three local government chairmen and directed their vice to take over.

However, the house constituted a committee under the chairmanship of the Majority Leader of the house, Hon Lawan Muhammad Dansure to investigate the matter and reported back to the house within 4 weeks for further action.
