Tinubu compensates election losers with ministerial nomination in the second batch
***5 more former Govs make Tinubu’s second list of 19 ministerial nominees
President Bola Tinubu may have turned ministerial appointment to avenue for compensating politicians who were defeated in the last election.
This is just as five more former governors made the final list of 19 ministerial nominees which was announced by the Senate President Godswill Akpabioon the floor on Wednesday.
With the new list Tinubu has broken a record of having appointed 9 former governors into his cabinet making the cabinet another retirement home for former governors who could not make it to the Senate.
A list of 19 persons in the second batch was sent to the Senate Wednesday evening with mostly politicians who failed to secure victory in their respective contests.
The nominees who lost:
Tinubu’s ministerial nominees and their states
Simon Lalong: The former governor of Plateau State lost the Senate seat to AVM Napoleon Bali of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election.
Gboyega Oyetola: The Osun State Governor lost his re-election bid to Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 2022 gubernatorial election in the state.
Abubakar Bagudu: The former governor of Kebbi State lost the senatorial contest for Kebbi Central district to Adamu Aliero, another former governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Bello Matawalle: The Zamfara State Governor lost his reelection bid to Lawal Dare of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in March. Dare scored 377,726 votes to defeat Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, who polled 311,976 votes.
Shuaibu Abubakar: Lost the Kogi State APC primary election.
The former Governors who made it in the second list included, Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State, Atiku Bagudu Kebbi State,
Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State
Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe and Simon Lalong of Plateau State.
In the First list, Nyeson Wike former Governor of Rivers State, Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State were on the list
