Masked DSS operatives whisk off Emefiele from Court premises after rumpus with Prison officials

Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, was rearrested by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), on Tuesday after Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos admitted him to bail in the sum of the N20m.

The development came after a skirmish where masked DSS operatives had a scuffle with prison officials over who should take custody of Emefiele.

Although the court ordered Emefiele to be remanded in prison custody until he perfect his bail conditions, DSS personnel refused allowing prison officials to take Emefiele as they at exactly 03:03pm, took him out of the courtroom into their waiting vehicle.

This came after they manhandled and arrested a top official of Ikoyi Prisons on the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos State.

The prison official was reportedly arrested over moves to stop DSS from taking Emefiele.

The Ikoyi prison official who was rough-handled and shuffled into the DSS vehicle was later released by the secret service operatives.

Emefiele was arraigned by the Federal Ministry of Justice for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition but was granted bail in the sum of N20m with one surety, following his “not guilty” plea.

As the defendant’s lawyers were trying to perfect his bail conditions, inter agency rivalry played out within the court premises between DSS operatives who were fully masked and NCS over who will take custody of the embattled CBN boss.
