A Civil Society Organisation based in the nation’s capital, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the swift appointment of Service Chiefs to head the various security formations in the country.

The group, Coalition for Equity and Good Governance, made the commendation in a world press conference in Abuja, where they described the development as a clear departure from past administrations where sensitive positions are left vacant after the exit of their predecessors.

The National Coordinator of the group, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim, maintained that the prompt appointment was a clear indication of President Tinubu’s commitment towards addressing the security challenges bedevilling the country.

The Coordinator, while also commending the President for ensuring that equity and competence was observed in the appointment of the new service chiefs, urged the appointees to work together to rid Nigeria off the menace of banditry and insurgency.

“The President has hitherto made commitment to Nigerians that religion and ethnicity will not find a place in his government, but competence and character will. And he has just demonstrated that in his recent appointments”, Abubakar stressed.

While congratulating the newly appointed Military Chiefs, he reminded them that the task ahead of them was enormous, as the safety and security of over 200 million Nigerians lies in their hands and would not hesitate to call them out if they fail to deliver.

Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had on Monday, June 19th, 2023, approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect.

A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, also announced the appointment of Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff.

Tinubu also appointed Rear Adm. E.A Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff and Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar, as Chief of the Air Staff, while Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye was appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence among others.

Also appointed is Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as the new National Security Adviser, DIG Kayode Egbetokun, Acting Inspector-General of Police and Adeniyi Bashir Adewale as the Ag. Comptroller General of Customs.
