The Obidient Movement has changed its national leadership ahead of the 2027 general election, with Dr Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr Mo, taking over as National Coordinator from Dr Yunusa Tanko.
The leadership change followed a virtual meeting of the movement’s national leaders and state coordinators with the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, on September 30, 2026.
Tanko, who led the movement for about three years, has been reassigned to work with Obi as Special Adviser/Political Adviser on Northern Nigeria.
In his new role, Tanko is expected to focus on political engagement, mobilisation and coordination across the North ahead of the 2027 election. He has formally accepted the assignment.
The change effectively places Paul at the centre of the Obidient Movement’s national coordination as the political network prepares for the next general election.
Paul, an entrepreneur, social activist and grassroots organiser, thanked the movement’s leadership for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to build on the structures established under Tanko.
“Dr Tanko’s shoes are quite big, and I will need your prayers and support to move the Movement forward,” Paul said in his acceptance remarks.
He also described the Obidient Movement as a citizens-driven platform rather than one centred on individuals.
The new coordinator is expected to oversee the movement’s existing national, regional and grassroots structures while sustaining engagement with supporters, youth groups, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
During his tenure, Tanko said the movement expanded its organisational structure to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He also cited the establishment of five regional coordinators, a Regional Collegiate Council and coordination structures covering the 37 state coordination areas and 774 local government areas.
Other initiatives attributed to his tenure include the development of a digital mobilisation and recruitment platform and an election-results monitoring system linked to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Results Viewing Portal.
Tanko said the structures were designed to move the movement beyond election-cycle activism and towards a more permanent organisational framework.
With Tanko now concentrating on the North and Paul assuming national coordination, the Obidient Movement enters a new phase of its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
The movement has urged its leaders, coordinators, volunteers and supporters to cooperate with Paul as he takes charge of the national structure.
