Kogi Poly Rector says women are bedrock of development

Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, has described women as the bedrock for meaningful development even as he urged that they be accorded deserved recognition in nation building.

The Rector made the declaration on Wednesday when Women in Leadership Positions in Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja presented him an award for his “Outstanding Achievements” in the Last One Year.

Dr Usman said women all over the world had proved their mettle that they are capable and had advanced the cause of humanity in many fields and should be allowed to lead in various spheres of nation building in Nigeria.

He said that the women in leadership positions and others in supportive capacities in the institution had contributed immensely to his transformation agenda.

The Rector stressed that the institution achieved a 100 per cent accreditation status in all courses with a woman heading the accreditation committee.

He said that the Accreditation Exercise in the institution which was estimated to gulp over N1 billion and later reduced to N400,000, was achieved with little over N170,000.

Dr Usman popularly called “Ogbo” commended the women for their cooperation, commitment, loyalty, competence, dedication, sincerity of purpose and their believe in his leadership.

The Rector commended and extolled the role of his Mother in his life saying that she played a vital role in the feat he had so far achieved in life noting that, Women remained the bedrock of any nation.

Presenting the award to him, the women spoke in turns to highlight the achievement of Kogi State Polytechnic under Dr Usman and why he deserved the honour.

They described him as a gender friendly and detribalised leader and pledged their continuous support for the success of the Polytechnic under the present leadership.

In her address, the Dean, School of General Studies Mrs Lola Balagbogbo while appreciating the Rector for his exemplary leadership said Dr Ogbo is a firm believer of gender equality like Governor Yahaya Bello.

Balagbogbo affirmed that under the current leadership of Dr Usman, there have been massive infrastructural development describing the Rector as “A man of good conduct and a peace builder in the Polytechnic.”

She further described him as quintessential leader adding that it is on record that in the history of the Polytechnic, under the Reactor’s leadership, women had been accorded recognition and sense of belonging that was hitherto non existent.

Also speaking, Mrs Ruth Haruna, Director, Academic said women in the polytechnic would continue to appreciate the ICT-Driven Rector who in the history of the institution, had taken Polytechnic to an enviable height.

Mrs Omolola Audu, the Polytechnic Librarian, while acknowledging the outstanding leadership of the Rector, commended him for identifying with Women.

“We have never had it so good since I came to Kogi Polytechnic in 2000. Dr Salisu Ogbo change everything for us. God will never forsake you sir for your contributions to humanity”, she said.

It is on record that following Governor Bello’s appointed Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, in 2020, Kogi State Polytechnic now has six female Heads of Department, six Female Deans and first female PRO among other appointments.

Senate endorses Omolola Oloworaran as PENCOM Director-General

The Senate has endorsed the nomination of Omolola Oloworaran as the substantive Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).
President Bola Tinubu had nominated Oloworaran for the position and sought Senate approval through a formal request. 
Her confirmation followed the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, presented during Thursday’s plenary session.
The committee’s chairman, Senator Cyril Fasuyi (APC, Ekiti North), stated that Oloworaran met all legal and professional requirements as outlined in the Pension Reform Act 2014. He emphasized that she fulfilled the criteria stipulated under sections 19(2), (5), (6), and 26 of the Act, qualifying her for the role.
“The nominee has demonstrated competence and meets the legal prerequisites for this position. The committee finds her to be a fit and proper person for appointment as Director-General of PENCOM,” Senator Fasuyi said.
During the session, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin put the committee’s recommendation to a voice vote, which received overwhelming support from the senators.
Oloworaran’s confirmation ensures continued leadership at PENCOM, an agency critical to Nigeria’s pension administration and reform initiatives.

Edo Governor Okpebholo Appoints Gani Audu as Chief of Staff

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced the appointment of Hon. Gani Audu as Chief of Staff, with the appointment taking immediate effect.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Fred Itua, made the disclosure through a press Statement on Thursday.
According to the statement the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Umar Ikhilor, who made the announcement described Audu’s new role as integral to advancing Governor Okpebholo’s reform agenda for the state.

The statement reads: “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly the good people of Edo State, that His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State, has approved the appointment of Hon. Gani Audu as his Chief of Staff. The appointment takes immediate effect.”

Hon. Audu, born on August 18, 1969, brings a rich background in governance and administration to his new role. A graduate of Auchi Polytechnic with an HND (1994), he went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from Benson Idahosa University (2011) and an M.Sc. in Intelligence and Global Security from Baze University, Abuja (2024).

Audu’s political experience spans nearly two decades. He served as Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council from 2004 to 2010, represented Etsako West Constituency 1 in the Edo State House of Assembly from 2015 to 2023, and was the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in the 2020 Edo State elections.

This strategic appointment is expected to bolster the governor’s administrative team and support his vision of transformative governance in Edo State.
