Former Niger State Governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has formed a multi-party coalition to support Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s re-election bid in 2027, despite the PDP’s governorship candidate, Mamman Nami.
The coalition, known as the Bago Actualization Group for New Niger, was inaugurated at Aliyu’s private residence in Abuja on Monday.
The group aims to mobilise support for Bago, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Aliyu said the coalition was open to members of all political parties, including the PDP, APC, African Democratic Congress (ADC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The initiative mirrors the multi-party coalition associated with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, although Aliyu’s group is focused on Bago’s re-election rather than the presidential race.
In a statement by Mallam Abdul Marafa, the group’s Zonal Media and Publicity Coordinator for Zone B, Aliyu said the coalition would promote continuity, unity and development in Niger State.
He urged members to remain disciplined and committed, stressing that the state’s interests should take precedence over personal ambitions and political differences.
Aliyu defended his support for Bago, citing the need to sustain development and respect established political understandings and zoning arrangements.
He said cooperation among political stakeholders was essential to promoting fairness, stability and progress in the state.
The inauguration attracted stakeholders from major political parties, including some members of the National Assembly.
