Obidient Movement Expresses Concern Over Attack on Obi, Odigie-Oyegun

The Obidient Movement has condemned in strong terms the violent disruption and attack involving Mr. Peter Obi, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City, Edo State.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the Movement described the incident as a grave threat to democratic engagement and political freedom.

It said the attack, which reportedly occurred shortly after a party rally, involved armed individuals who targeted party members and trailed senior leaders to a private residence, creating panic and leaving several people injured.
According to the group, the development signals a disturbing escalation in political hostility and intolerance. It warned that when political competition degenerates into violence, the foundations of democracy are placed at risk.
The Movement further expressed concern over what it termed an inadequate security response, insisting that intelligence and preventive measures must be strengthened to ensure that political actors and citizens alike are protected, irrespective of party affiliation.
Calling for calm but demanding accountability, the Obidient Movement urged an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident, swift action by federal security authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Other demands by the movement want a clear condemnation of political violence from national leadership, alongside firm assurances that such acts will not be tolerated anywhere in the country.
It therefore reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful participation, the Movement maintained that democracy must be defended through lawful means and civic responsibility.
“Our collective future depends on safeguarding the right of every Nigerian to assemble, speak, and participate freely,” the statement read. “We remain resolute, peaceful, and committed to a Nigeria where leadership is determined by the will of the people—not fear.”
