As the 2027 governorship race draws closer in Katsina State, insecurity and economic hardship have become defining issues shaping political discussions, with the candidacy of the Garba Yakubu Lado Danmarke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) increasingly gaining attention.
A former Senator and House of Representatives member, Lado Danmarke has remained an influential political figure in the state for over two decades. Emerging as the PDP consensus candidate in 2026, he has anchored his campaign on restoring security, reviving livelihoods, and addressing unemployment and poverty.
In a statement by Umar Sule, a member of the Fix PDP Fix Nigeria group, it was noted that many residents express concern over worsening insecurity, particularly in rural communities where farming activities and local trade have been significantly disrupted. The statement also referenced earlier periods when security challenges were comparatively less severe, although it acknowledged that the state has faced evolving security threats over time.
Currently, insecurity remains one of the most pressing issues in Katsina State, with repeated attacks, displacement of communities, and restricted access to farmlands contributing to growing economic pressure across affected areas.
Supporters of Lado Danmarke argue that his long-standing political experience and grassroots engagement place him in a strong position to coordinate responses to insecurity and support the rebuilding of affected communities.
He has consistently maintained that security will be his top priority if elected, with a focus on restoring stability and enabling residents to return to farming, education, and commerce without fear.
Observers say the 2027 election is increasingly being framed around security performance, governance credibility, and the broader question of restoring public confidence in state leadership.
