The Senate Committee on Army has praised the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, and other security agencies for the successful rescue of Mrs Amina Abubakar, widow of the late Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, during Operation Fansan Yamma in Katsina State.
In a statement by the Committee Chairman, Sen. Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the lawmakers said the operation reflects improved synergy, professionalism, and renewed commitment by security forces to dismantle bandit and terrorist networks in the North-West.
The Committee described the rescue as a significant operational success and urged security agencies to sustain the momentum in ongoing counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping operations nationwide.
It also expressed condolences to the family of the late Maj. Gen. Abubakar and wished Mrs Abubakar a speedy recovery as she receives medical attention.
The lawmakers further emphasized that national security cannot be achieved by security agencies alone, stressing the need for stronger citizen involvement in intelligence gathering and community vigilance.
They called on Nigerians to remain alert and report suspicious movements or activities promptly to security operatives, including the police, military, and local vigilante groups, noting that timely intelligence remains critical to preventing attacks and saving lives.
The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to legislative support, oversight, and adequate funding for the Nigerian Army to enhance operational efficiency in the fight against insecurity.
It expressed optimism that sustained cooperation between citizens and security agencies would further degrade criminal networks and improve security across the country.
