Ogunmola Explains Defection to APC, Cites Constituents’ Interests

Honourable Bode Ogunmola, member representing Ogori/Magongo Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, has explained that his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by the wishes and aspirations of his constituents.
Speaking at a defection rally in Lokoja on Monday, Ogunmola said he made the move after extensive consultations with the people of Ogori/Magongo, who expressed a desire to align with the state governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, and participate more actively in mainstream politics.
“My people want effective representation and to support the progress of our state under Governor Ododo. That is why I heeded their calls and joined the APC,” he said.
Ogunmola, who was previously elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), stressed that staying in his former party would have been a disservice to his constituents. He noted that the PDP’s ongoing internal crises made it unable to effectively serve the people of Ogori/Magongo.
The Lawmaker who was the spokesperson of the party explained that his decision was guided by three main considerations: supporting Governor Ododo’s developmental agenda, protecting the interests of his constituents, and ensuring that politics works for the people rather than for personal ambition.
The lawmaker also highlighted Governor Ododo’s performance and outreach, describing the administration as committed to state-wide development and responsive governance. Ogunmola expressed confidence that aligning with the APC would help bring more infrastructure and social projects to Ogori/Magongo.
Concluding, Ogunmola emphasized, “My defection is not for selfish reasons. It is to give voice to my people. After careful consideration, I am convinced that our best interests are served within the APC, and that is why I made this move.”
