The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has blamed a technical error by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the omission of its Kano State governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo, from the commission’s published list for the 2027 election.
The party urged its members and supporters to remain calm, assuring them that efforts were underway to correct the omission.
NDC Kano State Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Fasaha, said the party had contacted INEC and was told the problem was computer-related.
“I want to assure you that, as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us,” Fasaha said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“We have consulted INEC, and they told us that the problem was with the computer, and they will rectify it.”
Fasaha expressed confidence that an updated list containing Gwarzo’s name would be released by Monday.
He maintained that the candidate had fulfilled all electoral requirements and that the party had completed the necessary procedures within the stipulated period.
Similarly, Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, caucus secretary of NDC House of Representatives candidates in Kano Municipal Constituency, said the omission was an error by INEC.
Kofarmata said Gwarzo had completed his registration on time and that the party had uploaded his name to INEC’s portal.
He insisted that neither the candidate nor the party had failed to meet the commission’s requirements.
According to him, the party had received confirmation that the omission originated from INEC, which was working to correct it.
The omission has raised concerns within the party as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
NAN reported that the published list contained 17 governorship candidates and their running mates from different political parties.
Governor Abba Yusuf was listed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, with Murtala Sule-Garo as his running mate.
Other parties on the list included the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The NDC said it would continue consultations with INEC while awaiting the corrected list.
