Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Joins APC, Formal Declaration Set for Tuesday

The political landscape of Enugu State is set for a major shift as Governor Peter Mbah prepares to formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu, the state capital.

Governor Mbah is expected to move with a strong contingent of political allies, including elected national and state legislators, members of the state executive, and party leaders across ward and local government levels.

The development marks a strategic move by the APC to deepen its influence in the South-East ahead of future elections.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu, hinted at the governor’s impending defection while inaugurating a seven-man caretaker committee for the party in Enugu State.

Speaking to journalists at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja after his inauguration, the new Enugu State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, confirmed that Governor Mbah and key members of his administration would be officially received into the party on October 14.

Last Thursday, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved the Enugu State Working Committee (SWC) and appointed a caretaker team to reposition the party in the state.

With Mbah’s defection, political observers say the Enugu chapter of the APC may experience one of its most significant realignments since 2015.
