Akume: Policy Continuity Is Tinubu’s Compass for Sustainable Development

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to policy continuity and governance stability, describing it as both a governance principle and a moral duty to Nigerians.

Akume, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs, Mr. Nadunga Gagare, spoke in Abuja at the inauguration and maiden lecture of the Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement (RHGM) themed: “Continuity in Governance and Government Policies: Panacea to Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”

He noted that one of Nigeria’s recurring challenges has been the abandonment of projects and policies whenever leadership changes, a cycle he said has drained resources and slowed national progress.

“Sustainable development thrives on consistency. A road started by one administration should be completed by the next,” he stressed. “The Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on reforms that outlive personalities, strengthening institutions, and building systems that deliver for the people.”

Akume charged the RHGM to remain focused on mobilizing Nigerians at the grassroots to understand, support, and own government policies. “The grassroots are the heartbeat of democracy. Without their active involvement, no brilliant policy can succeed,” he added.

National Leader of the Movement, Ambassador Isaac Chigozie Udeh, assured that President Tinubu has consolidated his political base ahead of 2027, urging Nigerians to remain patient.

“What the country is experiencing now is like pregnancy—after the discomfort, joy will surely follow,” Udeh said, stressing that the group is committed to defending the President’s reforms against what he termed “political experimentation.”

Also speaking, RHGM National Women Leader, Mrs. Soaga Abiola, underscored the importance of women in governance, insisting that “no nation can thrive without women’s contributions,” while pushing for more leadership opportunities for women.

The event featured goodwill messages from across the six geopolitical zones, the diaspora, and youth leaders, as well as the inauguration of RHGM executives and coordinators. Awards were also presented to distinguished Nigerians for their contributions to national development.
