A disagreement over the use of a shared compound space in Lugbe, Abuja, has landed a woman in court after she allegedly poured boiling water on her neighbour during the dispute.
The suspect, Beauty Monday, was arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command and arraigned over the alleged assault.
The incident occurred on September 4, but the police said the complaint was formally lodged at Lugbe Police Division on September 6.
According to the police, the dispute began after the victim, identified as Gift Amos, moved Monday’s pot of boiling water from a stove to the portion of the compound allocated to her.
The action allegedly angered Monday, who subsequently removed the pot from the stove and poured its contents on Amos’s back.
The victim reportedly sustained serious burns and grievous injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said the suspect had been arraigned before a court and remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
The case was adjourned until September 16, 2026.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to exercise restraint when resolving disputes.
Sanusi warned against resorting to violence or self-help, stressing the need for residents to use lawful channels to settle disagreements.
The command also urged residents to report suspicious activities and security concerns to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
