Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has officially commenced degree programmes in affiliation with the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) following the signing of a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions.
The agreement, signed on Friday at the University’s Senate Hall, provides for the establishment of a Study Centre at the Polytechnic’s main campus to run regular undergraduate and Top-Up degree programmes.
According to Uredo Omale, Director of Public Relations and Protocol at the Polytechnic, the regular programmes will be open to applicants through UTME and Direct Entry, while the Top-Up scheme—available on both full-time and part-time modes—will allow holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates to convert them into corresponding degree qualifications.
The partnership also covers staff and student exchanges, resource and equipment sharing, as well as joint research and learning initiatives.
Describing the MoU as “historic in all ramifications,” Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, said it would remain one of the landmark achievements of his tenure. He commended FUL Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwunmi, for his role in making the collaboration a reality, noting that the Polytechnic’s robust infrastructure, manpower, and secure environment are ready to sustain the programme.
“All our programmes are fully accredited, and we pledge total compliance with the terms of this agreement,” the Rector assured.
On his part, Prof. Akinwunmi said the partnership was a “dream come true” and a boost to educational development in Kogi and beyond. He urged that implementation begin immediately, while applauding the Polytechnic for expanding access to tertiary education.
Prof. Musa Adeku Ibrahim, Director of FUL’s Centre for Distance and E-Learning, recalled that discussions for the Study Centre began in February and culminated in Senate approval on August 7, 2025, after a successful oversight verification.
